Metaphors and Relationships

  1. Read language and emotion poems- discuss
  • What images stand out to you?
  • What examples do you see of figurative language?
  • What abstract idea does the poem express?
  1. Partner Activity: Playing with Similes
  2. Metaphors and relationships
  3. Write poem and/or complete reflection- due next class
Reflection Prompts:
    • What is your writing process (how do you begin a piece?how do you edit? how do you revise? how do you end a piece? )
    • Which piece in your portfolio are you the most proud of and why?
    • Which piece in your portfolio was the most challenging to write and why?
    • Identify the strengths and weaknesses in your writing.

HW: Write a poem based off either the concrete/abstract language brainstorming or the metaphors and relationships brainstorming. You may choose to combine the two- the idea is to write a poem that uses concrete language to reflect an abstract emotion or a relationship.
