Cue Workshop

Learning target: I can evaluate a piece of writing using established criteria. I can revise my writing in response to feedback.

1. Cue Model
In partners, please do the following after reading the model paragraph:

  • Underline and evaluate the topic sentence. Does it tell the main idea of the paragraph?
  • Underline triac terms.
    • Reinforcement: (key terms: in fact..., in other words..., to begin…)
Information: (key terms: for example…, for instance...., as an illustration…)
Analysis: (key terms: this is important because…., the significance of this is….)
Conclusion: (key terms: overall…, in the end…., above all….)
  • Look at the quotes and notice how they are formatted in the paragraph. Do they all support the topic/reinforcement sentences?
  • Evaluate the closing sentence. Does it effectively close the piece? What could make it stronger?
